Mark Your Books, Purposely!
Several Weeks Ago…
I made these bookmarks as part of the PREXcoaching® promotional materials.
Even though I was super hyped about them at the time, I didn’t post anything until now. Why?
Apparently, I’m not perfect. And being the perfectionist that I am, that’s kind of a dealbreaker.
The Background
Originally, I just wanted to make simple bookmarks to hand out, but my best friend kept nagging me about how ugly they were and that it was better for me to give away blank papers instead of them. Eventually, I caved and decided to make proper bookmarks – the ones that would actually reflect the true nature of PREXcoaching®.
Nitty-Gritty
There are four variants of bookmarks – check them out in the gallery.
The first bookmark represents a type of game that we play often in our sessions. It encourages divergent thinking and focuses on reinventing everyday objects.
The second bookmark is another type of game we frequently use. It’s a freestyle cloze text where you must insert any word that makes sense. They say that bookmarks should be thought-provoking, but since I know no boundaries, I may have gone overboard with this one. Oh, well. 😁 Definitely not for the faint-hearted, though.
The third and the fourth bookmarks follow the thought-provoking rule, each featuring a prompt to think about and a subsequent question to follow up.
I kept them nice and minimalistic, black and white, which leaves plenty of room for doodling, scribbling, and note-taking. Remember – it’s you who adds the color and meaning to PREXcoaching®.
The Reality Strikes
All giddy about how cute the bookmarks turned out to be, I decided to take some nice pictures which would capture the awesomeness of the whole project.
However, I forgot that I couldn’t take a decent photo if my life depended on it, and my best friend made sure I didn’t forget that. Which is understandable, since he has a very astute eye for detail and beauty. If you haven’t already, check out some of his photos in our joint project Oh, Snaps! Wondering Thoughts & Lingering Opinions.
Disappointed that I couldn’t take a worthy photo, I decided not to post anything about the bookmarks.
The Seed of Doubt
Fast forward a few weeks, and – only God knows how – I’m making plans for a video series where I’d need small tokens of affection for random participants. Which is where the bookmarks come in handy.
At the beginning, some of my friends, who know about my photo-taking struggles, offered to pitch in and take the videos and photos for me. I’m not really sure, but I’m fairly certain they just want to be part of the action when things go south for me in front of the live camera. Either way, this leaves me enough time to tackle the basics of photography. Well, the basics of the basics, at least. Hopefully.
Anyway, bottom line – it’s a good thing I’m not perfect. I would have missed a great opportunity to hang out more with people I love and create wonderful memories. That’s my kind of success. Skills will come with practice.
