Summer Goals – Disclaimer
After writing the details of the summer goals list, I realized that additional information might be useful to put them into perspective. Otherwise, they just seem like an instance of a procrastinator on a productivity spree.
Timeline
Originally, I thought about finishing this whole Summer Goals project by the end of July. However, it’s summer, I’m going home at some point, and I can’t really know how things will play out there. So, I decided to extend the deadline to take a bit of pressure off and make things more attainable.
However, if I happen to finish things by the end of July, I will consider it a remarkable achievement, but not greater than crossing off all items from the list.
Let’s enjoy the ride, no need to crash or earn a speeding ticket.
Accountability
The reason why I decided to publish this project on my blog was to increase accountability.
These are all things that ended up on the backburner because they are something that I would like to do, but they’re not crucial for what I actually do. By going public, I added a bit more motivation for their execution.
Hopefully, taking some pressure off the deadline and shifting it to the accountability side will also act as a boost to some other projects I’ve been working on.
I may burn out, but that’s something bound to happen when your backburner becomes a bonfire.
Difficulty
How I organized this list is rather simple.
The project that carries the most meaning for me personally is publishing Cross-Referencing Creativity, which is why I decided to label it as the Big Goal.
The medium projects are not so difficult, but I’ve been postponing them for far too long, so I guess they really have to go.
The creativity projects are just something I love doing, and this is a wonderful opportunity for me to boost my engagement.
None of these are too difficult or complex, which is probably why they’ve slipped onto the backburner so many times, so easily, and so often.
What to expect & why
Even though it’s summer, and the vacation time is nearing, I still have other things to do, so these goals have made it to the list precisely because I have some extra time to finish them up.
Also, since this is a personal project, I’m not gonna blindly follow the list – doing the big project first, followed by the medium ones, followed by the small ones. I’ll just mix & match and do things I feel like doing.
Kinda like adding a touch of Mark Forster’s Autofocus, another time management technique I wrote about in The Essential 52: 52 Time Management Techniques for 52 Tightly Packed Weeks.
You may think that procrastination is the main reason why I haven’t done them before, but don’t forget that these are just side projects that I’ve been meaning to do. Sometimes, other things take priority, and there’s not much you can do about it.
Most of these projects are in a way a collab with my best friend, so I don’t depend only on my own free time, but also on his, or more precisely, the lovely combination of both.
Anyway, it is what it is, and the time has come to switch the burners.
So, as I said in the previous two posts – wish me luck!
