89.

That’s how old my grandma will be this year.

Recently, she’d been complaining that her health wasn’t what it used to be, so I decided to put my work to good use and help her out. I made her a set of blocks she could play with to keep her mind and motor skills sharp.

The plan was to create six different games, all simple enough to use, but varied enough to keep her thinking, moving, and engaged.

I wanted to make something playful and useful at the same time. Something that would support her mind, give her hands something to do, and offer a bit of challenge without turning into a chore. In other words: something practical, but still fun.

That’s how Grandma’s blocks came to be.

What started as a simple idea slowly turned into a proper little project. One block led to another, one game led to six, and before long I had a whole set designed especially for her.

I also recorded a short video about how the whole idea came about and why I decided to make the blocks in the first place, so I’m leaving it below.

Have you ever made something playful and useful for a parent or grandparent? And if not, what kind of game or activity do you think they’d actually enjoy?
