With the new week coming, this is your reminder to stay energized, focused, and happy…
Fun with Effects, Psychological Effects

My Kind of Effects
There are two kinds of effects I like – special effects and psychological effects.
Let’s face it – nothing can light up a gloomy night quite like rainbow-colored fireworks, right?
I mean, it’s impossible not to nice the magic…
All Kinds of Effects
And there again, there are other types of effects.
For example, I’m sure you’ve heard of the placebo effect, where a patient’s health improves because they believe they’re receiving the right treatment.
Medications, for instance, come with their own side effects, or the adverse reactions caused by a certain drug or treatment.
There is also the ripple effect, where something spreads like ripples on water, and a thing called the net effect, which is an impact of an action after mitigation.
In language, “effect” comes in the form of many collocations and idiomatic phrases, such as adverse effects, beneficial effects, short-term effects, long-term effects, cumulative effects, permanent effects, to take effect, to put into effect, with immediate effect, of no effect, and so on and so forth.
Psychological Effects
A special kind of effects are psychological effects which describe patterns of behavior, cognitive biases, and how our minds work. You know – effects like the Dunning-Kruger Effect, the Pratfall Effect, or the Pygmalion Effect.
How many of these do you know? Why don’t you take the quiz below and find out?
There are 10 questions in total, each of them describing a specific effect. Are the descriptions true or false? Take the quiz and find out.
Hint: if you play the quiz again, you may stumble upon new effects.
Good luck, and may the power of psychology be with you!
