Shift Your Perspective – Change Your Outcome

At times, we are all forced to make decisions we’re not willing to make. These decisions are either strenuous for our mental health, our emotional health, and sometimes, even our physical health is at stake.

So we do what seems most pleasant in the situation: we wait. We postpone. We delay. We procrastinate. We hope things will sort out on their own. Without our intervention. Somebody will do that for us. Time.

Here’s a random thought. It might be a piece of advice as well:

If you’re not certain about some important decisions or changes in your life – simply decide to change the perspective – and the solutions will crystallize on their own.

Let me illustrate what I mean.

About two years ago, I made a very important decision and failed to follow through because I found out some new intel that changed my perspective on the whole situation.

Today, almost two years later, despite my inner hope that things might be different, I realized that nothing has changed in the meantime, and that my initial decision – no matter how difficult it was – was right.

Yes, many things have happened in the meantime. Yes, not every moment was a good opportunity to follow through. And yes, it was my conscious decision to wait and see what would actually happen.

That’s the perspective: wait for change and then act upon it.

However, here’s another perspective.

Two years make up for 731 days (give or take). Let’s assume an average month has 30.5 days. Take away two months – that’s approximately 670 days. Let’s assume that out of those 670 days, due to justified reasons, nothing could have happened for at least 6 months, or 183 days. That’s roughly 487 days.

Four hundred and eighty-seven days when something could have changed. Anything. But nothing. Four hundred and eighty-seven days.

I spent 487 days learning the lesson that I already knew:

Nothing will ever change unless I do.

How’s that for perspective?

They say time heals everything, but here’s the truth: if you leave matters to time to take care of them, you can be certain that the outcome you are hoping for will not be the one you had in mind.

We have the power to take matters into our own hands and shape the future to our will. Putting that power in the hands of time not only reshapes the future but also deprives it of our will. In such a future, our will becomes a wish, so to say. A past wish, or wishful thinking, if you prefer.

Do you really want to leave your future to time? Or will you act now?
